A ceramic-coated car is easier to clean, not maintenance-free. This guide explains washing, drying, boosters, water spots, and what to avoid.

Ceramic coating makes maintenance easier, but it does not remove the need for maintenance. The coating performs best when the owner washes correctly, dries properly, and avoids products that clog or abrade the surface.

The First Week After Coating

Fresh coatings need curing time. Follow the installer’s handoff instructions. Avoid unnecessary washing, harsh chemicals, heavy rain exposure where possible, and wiping the surface before the coating has settled.

If the car gets wet early, do not panic. The key is to avoid rubbing or chemical cleaning unless instructed.

Regular Washing

Use pH-neutral shampoo, clean microfiber wash mitts, and safe drying towels. Start with a rinse or foam pre-wash to loosen grit. Wash upper panels first and lower panels last.

Avoid:

  • Brush washes
  • Dirty roadside cloths
  • Dish soap
  • Heavy degreasers
  • Wax-heavy products unless recommended
  • One towel for wheels and paint

Why Drying Matters

Water spots are one of the most common coating complaints. Coating helps water move, but minerals can still remain if water dries on the surface. Dry with a soft microfiber towel or blower.

Ceramic Boosters

Boosters or maintenance sprays can help restore slickness and water behavior, but they should not be used to hide poor washing. If the coating feels rough, decontamination may be needed first.

Signs The Coating Needs Attention

Look for:

  • Weak water beading
  • Rough paint after washing
  • Stubborn traffic film
  • Water spots
  • Loss of slickness

These signs do not always mean the coating has failed. Often the coating is clogged with contamination and needs proper cleaning.

ReLuxe Recommendation

Wash coated cars every 1-2 weeks depending on dust and rain. Dry properly. Avoid brush washes completely. Book a coating inspection if water behavior changes or the surface feels rough.
